Overview:
A new business model is required in which business and IT are no longer separate entities but are much more intertwined. Such a model will be more effective in determining the human and technical resources, the sources of raw data (whether structured or unstructured, internal or external), and the "manufacturing" required to efficiently and effectively produce and deliver the information needed to make better operational decisions, to better monitor organizational performance to proactively make changes, and to uncover the leading indicators of changes in market demand. This will require changes in attitudes and behaviors that are outlined in this paper. These cultural changes will be accelerated by the more technology-savvy workers who are entering the workforce-employees who grew up using technology to get the information they need. In contrast, those insurance organizations that continue to focus on information only as a source of operational efficiency will find themselves efficiently processing a book of business that others have left to them.
