Overview:

LoBue Citrus is a family-run grower and distributor of oranges accounting for approximately 4 - 5% of the California citrus industry. The company recognized the need to automate its produce traceability program, which was formerly handled manually.

This case study explores the process used to replace the manual system with an automated food traceability system in order to improve inventory accuracy, the speed of trace-backs, and to reduce time spent on physical inventories.

Read on to discover they were able to leverage smart printers with the brainpower of personal computers built right in, in order to achieve:

  • Food trace-backs within minutes vs. two hours

  • Inventory accuracy improved from 86-94% to 98-99%

  • 8 to 16 hours saved on physical inventories per day

  • And $96 to $240 saved on labor costs per day.
