Overview: The IBM DB2 ROI tool has been designed for developers, database administrators and senior IT management personnel alike, to help them perform a clinical analysis of the cost savings gained from the Storage Optimization feature of DB2 for Linux, UNIX and Windows. The feature, also known as Deep Compression, compresses data that lies within a database using a dictionary, reducing the size of the database by up to 40-50%. The ROI tool requires a user to enter various statistics about their specific database environment, and performs a break even analysis for the user. To find out how much space a company can save by using the feature, the user can use the Data Storage Analyzer that employs the exact same algorithm as the Deep Compression feature to arrive at a very accurate estimate of the size of the compressed database.
