What is KnowledgeStorm?

The Three Most Common Ways To Use KnowledgeStorm:
1. Browse the KnowledgeStorm Directory
This is the "drill-down", menu-driven, "point-and-click" way to find what you're looking for. Our directory contains a comprehensive list of business and technology categories. Start with the category that best describes your need and dive into the directory. It's really that easy.

2. Search by Terms
You've probably used GoogleTM and Yahoo!®, right? Well, KnowledgeStorm works similarly with a couple of important exceptions: KnowledgeStorm is exclusively devoted to business technology research content and solutions, presented in an easy-to-read and accessible format.

Just enter your search term into the search box found at the top of every page of KnowledgeStorm and click the "Search" button to the right. For more refinement, you can use the drop-down list at the left of the search box to have your search results returned by keyword, company name of individual solution providers, or by the name/title of what you are looking for. 3. Use Our Advanced Search
If you want to add even more refinement to your search for business technology information, click the "Advanced Search" link at the top of every page of the website. That will open KnowledgeStorm's Advanced Search function. There you'll be able to choose hundreds of combinations of criteria to narrow your search.

Advanced Search lets you "tell" the KnowledgeStorm search engine to consider important parameters like: size and location of your company, or installations and industry types that best fit your circumstances, or technical specifications like: operating systems, database configurations, programming languages, networks and existing "middleware" or legacy applications you already have installed. How Do I Best Sort through Search Results?
KnowledgeStorm provides you with a couple of different ways to sort through your search results. Search results can be organized into four main categories: software products, hardware products, service/reseller solutions, and research. Within each of these categories, search results are further organized by green labels. You can also sort through research items by date, relevance, etc.

What are the bracketed Labels on each search result?
Below each search result is a label in brackets that explains what the search result is - is it a case study or a hardware product. The labels help you further categorize and understand each search result. To help you understand what each of these labels means:

ASP: Technology shorthand for "Application Service Provider." These organizations manage and distribute business technology software from a central data center, not your own machines.
SOFTWARE PRODUCT: This is a software product that you can run on your company's computers.
ASP & SOFTWARE PRODUCT: This is a software product that you can operate on your company's computers or from the manufacturer's computers.
RESELLER: Resellers are vendors who have special distribution arrangements with a software solution manufacturer. They did not "build" the solution, but they market it for the maker and often support or customize it for your needs.
SERVICE: The "SERVICE" label indicates organizations whose main offerings are advice, consultation, and sometimes support.
SERVICE & RESELLER: Solutions in this category are by vendors who have special distribution arrangements with a software solution manufacturer. They did not "build" the solution, but they market it for the maker and often support or cus tomize it for your needs. In addition, these providers will also provide advice, consultation, and sometimes support depending on their relationship with the manufacturer.
HARDWARE PRODUCT: Products in this category are the "hardware" products that you use to run the various applications in your business. These might include, servers, networking equipment, routers, computer workstations and more.
VENDOR WHITE PAPER: Vendor white papers are documents that are written by IT providers to promote an understanding of their products and/or services.
CASE STUDY: Like Vendor White Papers, Case studies are also written by manufacturers of IT products and/or services, and generally highlight how a technology solution was implemented in order to solve a business problem for a specific company or set of companies.
WEBINAR: Webinars are online broadcasts of seminars covering a wide range of possible business technology topics and products.
ANALYST REPORT: Analyst reports are documents written by business research and advisory firms to educate readers about a specific topic using unbiased and factual information.
ARTICLE: Articles are written pieces published by technical journals and magazines that cover a topic or issue of a timely nature.
E-LEARNING TUTORIAL: E-Learning Tutorials are self-contained learning modules that educate users about a technical topic.

Refine your Search Results
To make your research process faster, you can narrow down your search results to one of the 4 major categories of content in the KnowledgeStorm directory: Software products, Service & Reseller solutions, Hardware products, and Research items. Just click on the tabs above the search results to start narrowing your set of search results. There are also other tools on the search results page that allow you to sort or filter your list of results by relevance, date, etc.

What is "My Research"?
My Research is a feature that helps you save certain information that you find on our site for later retrieval. You can save searches, detailed solution reports, and research abstracts to use at a later time. Find a detailed solution report that sounds like a fit, but want to keep searching and evaluating others? No problem, just save it to "My Research" and keep on browsing.
